Contact Lens Problems

For anyone who does not have perfect eyesight, contact lenses are an answer. Clear contact lenses are sought by millions of individuals each year. When the industry of coloured contacts began to increase in popularity it meant millions more joined the ranks of wearing contacts; however, these wearers have encountered contact lens problems.
Certainly, a wearer of any contact lenses might experience problems, but those who have prescription contact lenses are taught more about their contacts, contact care, and how to prevent eye disease, whereas someone who purchases coloured contact lenses online might not learn the necessities.

Common Contact Lens Problems

There are a few common contact lenses problems you can encounter: fit, care, and durability. We will look at each problem to tell you how to deal with it. Contact fit is how well the contact fits over your iris and pupil. Each person’s eye has a measurement, which determines the right size contact lenses to purchase. Even coloured contact lenses have slightly different sizes. You may find the contact lenses are 8.4/14.4 or they could be something entirely different. The 14.4 is millimetre to represent the diameter of the contact lens. When the contact is improperly fit for your eye it will feel like you have an eye lash or a bit of dust in your eye. You can reposition the contact, but eventually if you leave it in for several hours your eye will become highly irritated. It may even scratch your eye.

Durability can be an issue with coloured contact lenses due to the soft lens material they are made from. It is easy to tear a contact if you are not careful. Even if it is a small tear the contact lens problem can feel very large. Again it would feel like you have something in your eye because in fact you do. A tear will leave a jagged edge which could scratch your eye or at least irritate it enough that you will suffer for continuing to wear it. Taking your time with the contacts is the only way to prevent contact lens problems such as tearing.

Contact Lens Care Problems

Care is the number one contact lens problem you can suffer from. Improper care can lead to eye disease, tears, dirt, and other particles being left on the contact lens. Our eyes produce protein, which builds up on the contact when it is in our eye. This protein has to be cleaned off each time you take your contact lenses out. You also need to change out the contact storage solution each time you wear your contacts to avoid contamination.
If you fail to clean the contact properly it can lead to an eye infection. This infection can create a small anomaly on your eye, which feels like it has been scratched. Your eyes can also turn very red and have light sensitivity. At this point the only treatment is steroid drops. Another issue with improper care of your contact lenses are cysts that form on your eye lid and require a hot compress to reduce. If you follow proper maintenance you will avoid most contact lens problems.
